Artist Bio

Ricki is a queer oil painter, maker, tinkerer and tattoo artist working in Naarm. 

Conceptually tracing the parallels of nature's processes with human queerness provides insights into how categories of right/wrong, of being acceptable and pure are superimposed onto both as forms of control and understanding by oppressive systems. Nuance, collaboration, variety and interconnection are signs of healthy systems in nature and humans. Painting with these ideas in mind aims to celebrate these fluid relationships and states in the natural world that exist beyond, and in spite of, rigid categorisations designed to eliminate anything considered impure or improper.
