Artist Bio
Driven by his passion for creative expression, Eric WH Chin infuses his artistic pursuits with his individual sensibility and astute observation of the people and environment around him.
Eric holds a Bachelor degree and PhD in Chemical Engineering and he does not have formal training in art. He hones his skills predominately through self-discovery, experimentation, and active engagement in life drawing and plein air painting sessions.
Eric has a keen interest in portraying the human forms. Portraiture and figurative paintings serve as a means for him to explore emotions, expressions, and intricacies of human experience.
Eric also draws inspiration from the expansive beauty of nature. Trees with gnarly branches, boulders covered in orange lichen and ever-changing seascapes are frequently depicted in his artworks. Having a great fondness for animals, birds in particular are featured as his favourite subject for painting.
Artwork Statement
Frank Bonnici is a dancer, yoga teacher and artist, and has been actively involved in the LGBTIQA+ community including being the face of a sexual health campaign.
I painted Frank over two life drawing sessions including the creation of a study and I spent additional time in my home studio to complete the painting.
Frank is exuberant and always emanates a sense of dynamism in the poses he strikes. In this painting, he is portrayed as somewhat contemplative, contrasting the hot pink singlet that he is wearing. This is possibly a sneak-peak into the a different side of Frank.
