Artist Bio
I am a painter working in Narrm/Melbourne with an evolving interest in sculpture and installation. My visual language is a dialogue between the abstract and figurative, in a pursuit to find where the physical world and imagination intersect.
In this universe, creeks give advice, skies talk to concrete and teenagers merge with mountains. Figures traverse abstract lands searching for hope, confidence, inspiration and safety.
Elements of humour animate the work, with each figure carrying their own personality, modern day jesters acting as vehicles for playful rebellion against outdated hegemonies.
Assembling new realities through a posthuman lens, while simultaneously celebrating humanness by leaving visual breadcrumbs within each work. Including colour swatches and developmental markings beneath finished pieces, my intent is to honour human experimentation that is necessary to create meaningful work, while the boundaries between the biological and technology rapidly dissolve.
Artwork Statement
With lines blurred between figure and surroundings, The Conductor is a piece made from the artist's desire to summon the strength and audacity that is needed to walk in the world as a queer emerging artist. The figure walks fearlessly through the storm, growing in chaos, walking away from mountains previously climbed. Made in two rapid studio sessions, The Conductor moves in haste towards the unknown and has fun while doing it.
