Artist Statement
My creative process is to absorb information around me, with a focus on the simple and often overlooked.
As a mixed media artist I have explored mediums including sculpture, drawing, photography painting and mixed media on canvas. My work is not defined by a medium; rather I let the idea dictate the medium. I enjoy dissecting, reassembling, reappropriating, mixing both a scientific and organic process. Recurring themes in my work include nature, repetition, architecture, camouflage, geometry, symbology, minimalism and social commentary.
Unmasking the Masculine:
This work examines the coded language of queer masculinity, the systems of visibility that exist within gay culture and the tension between what is hidden and what is allowed to be seen. The coloured business card embedded in the work acts like a fragmented badge or digital code and the work questions how queer identity is filtered through labels and performative expectations.
