Jon Hewitt

Jon Hewitt (b.1984 Bristol, UK) is a painter based in Melbourne. Having studied art at Oxford Brookes University, UK in early 2000’s when painting was a dirty word and the YBAs reigned supreme, he only recently returned to artmaking and began painting following a serious illness in 2021. He paints landscapes without any land, in portrait orientation, focussing on the sky, the light it creates, its global presence and the contemplative space it offers.

He's exhibited widely across Melbourne and a bit overseas and is held in many private collections in Australia and further afield. In 2026 he is undertaking a residency at Similkameen Artist Residency in Keremeos, Canada, using the time to begin a new series of sky paintings to be shown at Nightingale Gallery in May 2027.

When he's not painting, he's writing a book about living with chronic fatigue, walking the dog, watching sport or the news, listening to podcasts about sport and the news and reading books about the news, sport and fantasy worlds. He's an ok cook, bald, and the son of a preacher man.
