Paired with this is a work by Australian composer Lachlan Skipworth called Villanelle, written in 2024 and taking its name from a popular poetic form where 19 lines rhyme.

Mozart’s K301 G major Sonata is a delicate interaction between the instruments, highlighting beautiful conversation and lighthearted rivalry between the instruments. This is followed by Beethoven’s stormy and dramatic Sonata Op.30 No.2, one of the masterworks of the repertoire and containing many varying emotions and fiery elements. Skipworth’s work shows an almost hypnotic texture in the piano part with the violin creatively dancing around and Strauss finishes this recital in a complete manner – the romanticism and true passionate sense of life is completely overwhelming in this big, bold and beautiful Sonata.

Both musicians are leading Australian instrumentalists who have had prolonged and esteemed careers over many years, with performances from Wigmore Hall to the Sydney Opera House and various concerto performances with most of the major Australian orchestras.
